µFuncCache: A User-Side Lightweight Cache System for Public FaaS Platforms

Building cloud-native applications based on public “Function as a Service” (FaaS) platforms has become an attractive way to improve business roll-out speed and elasticity, well reduce cloud usage costs. Applications FaaS are usually designed with multiple different functions their functionality, there will be call relationships between functions. At the same time, each function may depend other services provided by providers, such object storage services, database file services. When is relationship functions, or certain delay occur, increase length of chain, thereby affecting quality application user experience. Therefore, we introduce μFuncCache, user-side lightweight caching mechanism up data access for fully utilizing container destruction over-booked memory commonly found in platforms, latency without need perceive modify internal architecture clouds. Experiments scenarios have shown that μFuncCache can effectively performance consuming only small amount additional resources, while achieving maximum reduction 97% latency.
